SUMMER FAIR 2014
We held our Summer Fair this year in July 2014 and we were thankful that the day was blessed with beautiful sunshine. We were able to ‘spread out’ in our church grounds and enjoy both the lovely weather and the wonderful people who attended our fair.
We held a bottle tombola which was one of our most popular stalls as always and we also had a chocolate tombola which both ‘sold out’!
Our cake stall was bigger and better than ever and we have some wonderful cooks who happily bake for us each year and produce some marvellous treats for us to all enjoy. There was a tremendous array of cakes and a choice available for everyone.
This year we were also lucky enough to have a display from
on show which
showcased the great work they’ve been doing this year. It was great to see the work of these
talented children and thank you to everyone involved for letting us join in
this great work. It’s lovely when our
church and local community can all be involved together. Greenfields
There were many things on offer for children this year too. We had a bouncy castle, face painting, teddy bears picnic and children’s raffle all based in the vicarage garden. This enabled the children to run around and enjoy their own space without feeling too inhibited by too many grown ups. The ice cream man who was on site was a welcome addition too! I did see the vicar make two trips to the van (but don’t tell him I told you!)
We had a lovely choice of food on offer too and the ladies in the kitchen did a sterling job of serving teas, coffees and afternoon teas.

We enjoyed a lovely service on Mothering Sunday 30th March. Our service began at 10am which meant we could have a little lie in, but the clocks also went forward that day so each cancelled the other out!
We welcomed many people into our Church and enjoyed some lovely music from our Choir. The children from our weekly junior church or ‘Fish Club’ gave out a bunch of daffodils to all the ladies (and many of the men) in Church and this was a lovely end to this celebration service.

We have had a wonderful Christmas here at St Columba’s. Many different services have been held, both for families to enjoy and some very spiritual services which have been available for anyone to attend.
Our celebrations started, just like a home, with the decoration of the Church and putting up the tree. Well done to those brave souls who managed to get such a large tree upright and decorated. The flowers within the Church were beautiful and the crib helps us visually to see what Christmas is all about.
Our Christingle service on Christmas Eve was very well attended and it was lovely to see so many new faces amongst the congregation. Our children from both
and Fish Club (our Sunday club)
performed a wonderful play for us about a little angel who visited Jesus in the
stable. They performed brilliantly and ‘well
done’ goes to both the children and the youth leaders who directed them so
well. Christingles were passed out after
the service and enjoyed by all – I know mine formed part of my table decorations
on Christmas Day! Messy Church
We also had our usual service of Midnight Mass at 11.30 on Christmas Eve and a lovely celebration on Christmas morning.
A few days after Christmas we celebrated a service of lessons and carols with our Choir and organist who had worked tirelessly to ensure we enjoyed some beautiful music. This was a lovely service full of thanksgiving and the lessons we heard helped us to understand the promises that God has made to us through the teachings of the Bible.
Many thanks as always goes to the team who decorated the Church and made it look so beautiful, to the choir and organist who helped us to enjoy such wonderful music and to Fr Geoff and Fr Peter who helped us to celebrate this special time in our Church calendar.
Why not come along to one of our regular services or social events and ‘give us a try’? What have you got to lose?
